Innovation is complicated …

Creative techniques can help – but true creativity is the product of the innovator’s broader mental attitude.

I am an interdisciplinary artistdesignerresearcher who has been working in the area of transformative insights –those shifts in understanding that allow us to move toward individual self-actualisation, organisational change and social transformation – for the past 20 years.

This enables me to help individuals and organisations design and implement the changes that will really work for them – whether this is a new product, a new environment or a new strategy.

Successful innovation requires care …

Even when an idea appears to spring, fully-formed, into our consciousness in the classic Hollywood ‘Eureka!’ moment, research shows that the first – and most vital key – step in the creative cycle is preparation: actively exploring/understanding and framing the problem area.

I ensure truly creative outcomes for projects and organisations by being creative in how I understand/ map out the problem area – before any concrete design is even begun.

Adopting an explicitly participatory and user-centred approach, I use innovative activity design and inclusive facilitation to elicit/ reveal and distil the stakeholder needs that shape the underlying organisational landscape – and map the areas of greatest potential.

… and creativity at every stage

Applying a broad range of mental models acquired during my experience across academia and the private, public and third sectors – and an innately innovative approach to problem solving – to these insights into the underlying dynamics allows me to identify and develop effective and innovative strategies and designs that can leverage the greatest results from the available resources.

Whether it is being applied for culture change, new business development, or learning, this approach allows me to design and deliver the innovative events, experiences and environments that can help you, your project or your organisation move forward at any – or all – stages in the design process.

My apologies as I’m still in the process of building it … but using a small selection of case studies, this site aims to lay out the range of my skills, experience and interests, to illustrate how the apparently diverse strands of my personal and professional practice interleave and inform each other – and hopefully to create a foundation for future projects.
